Hello, apologies for writing in English, my Italian is not good anough yet. I've recently arrived in Italy and was hoping in future to work in the diagnostic lab (microbiology), however I heard that it is necessary to hold qualification from Scuola di specializzazione to get a permament job in the hospital. My question is, are these courses full time? or is it possible to have a job while attending the courses part time? I cannot find any information online, so any replies would be appreciated. (feel free to write responses in italian) thanks!

And I apologise for my English :-)
I think the rules change with the University you choose. You have to read the announcement (call for bids? Idk, hope you understand) carefully to know if it's a full time job. Yes, it's a job: in Italy it si possibile have a job without payment. Sure, yu'll have a new title after the School: "Dott. Janu, specialista in microbiologia/biochimica clinica/whatever", you have to study, you have to pay the fee, but you have to do practise, and that could be part time or full time, and it's a job without payment (if you aren't a MD).
I'm not a specialist, so I'm telling you general rules, I hope someone with this experience (and a better English) will answer you better than me |

Thanks for the answer!
I wonder why noone ever tried to change the system. From experience I know that trainees in clinical labs do a lot of work and it seems unfair that they have to pay for it. In England, the system is completely different. Trainees are paid a salary becasue they do work. And the goverment invests in them by providing their theoretical training. I don't see why biologists in Italy should be treated any different.

Hi, because in Italy the law is not equal for everybody, but some graduates (MD)are more equal than others (scientists). I'm sorry, Italy is one of the worst places in Europe at this moment for research and knowledge. |

Well, this sound depressing! But since I am already in Italy, I will need to find a job (as soon as I get my diplomas recognised...)
Maybe it's time to rally all biologists and fight for their rights :) |
